Walgreens Balance Rewards Program Starts 9/16/12

by SuzyQ on September 6, 2012

The new rewards program at Walgreens will be launching on September 16.  I wrote about this before to get an idea of what it was about, but the information is finally up on the Walgreens site.  Instead of getting instant money back in the form of Register Rewards, you will earn points on specific products.  So it’s not even based on your total purchase – only certain items.

According to the Terms and Conditions of the program, rain checks issued for those products will not be eligible for points after the promotion has ended.  Basically, if the store runs out of the product and you can’t get it before the deal ends, you’re out of luck.

The points you earn can be used toward future purchases at Walgreens beginning at 5,000 points (or $5 in Redemption Dollars, per the Terms and Conditions).  Points last for 3 years, but if you are inactive for 6 months, your account will close and you will forfeit any points you have accumulated.  If you return something that was purchased using your points (or Redemption Dollars), you will receive a refund in the form of store credit.

Click here to sign up for Balance Rewards.  I’m interested in hearing how everyone likes the program when it starts.  I haven’t done a lot of shopping at Walgreens in the past few months and I think this program might make my shopping there even less frequent, but we’ll see.  If anything, maybe I’ll win the million points!
