Expired Coupons – Don’t Throw Them Out!

Chances are, if you’ve been couponing for any length of time, you have had some of your coupons expire before you can use them, or you end up with a lot of coupons that you don’t even use.  Don’t throw them out!  Your expired coupons are still useful to military personnel stationed on overseas bases are able to use expired coupons for 6 months past the expiration date.

But how do you get them to deployed military families?

It’s simple.  I use Coups for Troops, a great site that matches couponers with overseas families.  Once you’re matched, you send your coupons directly to a family who uses them and share them with others on their base.  You can adopt as many families as you want, so you can potentially help a lot of folks.

To request to adopt a family, fill out this contact form and let them know.  They will email you when you’ve been matched.

Some things to remember when sending your coupons:

  • Don’t send coupons that are more than 2 months expired.  Sometimes the mail takes a long time to travel to different countries, and we want the families to have plenty of time to use the coupons we send.
  • You will have to pay postage to send coupons.  Priority mail flat rate boxes are the best way to go because you can load them up with coupons!  You will have to fill out a customs form, but they’re not as bad as they sound.  The value of the contents are $0 but you will have to estimate about how many coupons are in the box.
  • Send your family a note or some family or parenting magazines when you send the coupons or some other little gift that they might enjoy.  It can be tough living on a military base, especially one in a foreign country, so it’s nice to send the families something from home.

Thank you for supporting our overseas military and their families!
