CVS Shopping Trip July, 7, 2013 CVS Shopping Trip July, 7, 2013

I love when CVS has the buy $30, get $10 in ExtraBucks deal, especially when it’s for things that we need!  I started with a $5/$30 coupon and $17 in ExtraBucks from last week (but only used $12).  I realized when I got to the store that I forgot two of my coupons, so I’ll have to go back again get the Venus razor and Colgate toothbrushes.  I saved $5 in ExtraBucks to use for that transaction.

I only planned to do one transaction today because I’m trying to always have ExtraBucks to start with every week, instead of rolling them in multiple transactions on the same day.   But I messed up and forgot to grab the Pantene, even though I was standing in that aisle (this is why I usually don’t shop with my daughter usually!), so I had to do a second transaction to get the full $10 ExtraBucks.  That meant I actually ended up having to hit $40 before coupons (to get $5 ExtraBucks for each $20).  But the coupons were good and I had the ExtraBucks that I started with, so it all worked out well in the end.

Here’s the breakdown:

Herbal Essences Shampoo (4)     2/$5.00

Use (2) Clairol Product (exc trial/travel size) $5/2 PG7/7 exp 7/31/13
Free after coupons

Buy $30, Get $10 ExtraBucks (limit 1)

Bounty paper towels (1)     $5.77

  • Use Bounty towel or napkin (exc trial/travel size) $0.25/1 PG7/7 exp 7/31/13
  • $5.52 after coupon

Charmin 9-pk (1)     $5.77

  • Use Charmin product (exc trial/travel size) $0.25/1 PG7/7 exp 7/31/13
  • $5.52 after coupon

Secret deodorant (4)      B1G1 50%      $5.99/$2.99

  • Use (4) Secret Outlast or Scent Expressions (exc trial/travel size or 0.5 oz) $1/1 pG7/7 exp 7/31/13
  • $3.49 each after coupons

Pantene (4)      2/$7

  • Use (2) Pantene shampoo B1G1 conditioner or styler free (exc trial/travel size) PG7/7 exp 7/31/13
  • $2.01 each after coupons (cashier took off regular price, not sale price!)

Dawn (3)     $0.97

  • Use (3) Dawn product $0.25/1 PG7/7 exp 7/31/13
  • $0.72 each after coupons

Bowl Covers (1)     $0.50 ($1 section, half price sale)

Hallmark party cups (4)     $0.99 ($1 section, half price sale)

Total OOP: $23.04 (regular price $91.73)
Savings: $68.69  (75%)
ExtraBucks Earned: $10.00

Even with messing up my transaction and having to go back to finish the $30/$10 deal  and buying my little helper some princess cups, I still saved 75% today – not bad for getting stocked up on shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant.  I should be good for a while now!

What did you buy today?

After posting this and reading more about the Clairol coupon, I realize that I used this coupon in a way in which it was not intended to be used. Although the wording states clearly that the coupon is for any Clairol product, Clairol has said that the coupon was intended to be used for hair color only. I am leaving this post as is because I want to still show that it’s possible to save with coupons and sometimes we do something that isn’t right, even though we always have good intentions. I encourage those reading to do the right thing, even though I didn’t. Thank you for reading.
